The Chesterton girls tennis team took three sets on a two occasions, but pulled out a 3-2 Duneland Athletic Conference victory at Crown Point on Thursday.

“We haven’t beaten Crown Point since 2014,” Chesterton coach Tom Bour said. “They’ve been on top of the conference the last several years, so this was a big win for the girls and the program.”

In singles, Peyton Martinson dropped the opening set at No. 1 to Emily Rhee 6-4 before coming from behind to win the final two sets 6-4, 6-3.

Leah Rochford had a lot less trouble in getting a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3 over Katherine Ho.

In doubles, the match-clinching point came at No. 2 where Christian Charlson and Rachel Byrnside fell in the opening set to Peyton Smith and Jessica Bao 7-5.

Battling all the way back, Charlson and Byrnside won the final two sets 6-2, 7-5.

“Hopefully we can use this energy heading into the Sectional next week,” Bour said.
The Trojans return to the court tonight when they host Culver Academy at 4:30 p.m.
