girls soccer team handed Lake Central its first Duneland Athletic Conference
loss of the season with a 3-2 road victory on Tuesday night.
“We played a good
game against a really good opponent,” Chesterton coach Ben Forgey said. “It
was a fun game and we came out with the win.”
The Trojans got on
the board quickly when Ashlee Bakaitis crossed a ball to teammate Addy
Joiner for a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the game.
“That’s as good a
goal as you are going to see,” Forgey said.
goal of the night came at the 25:24 mark for a 2-0 lead.
“Addy’s second goal
is something she’s been working on,” Forgey said. “She just loves the game
and works really hard. The technique she used, it came straight from working
repeatedly on it in practice.”
The Indians tied
the game in the second half with a pair of penalty kicks, but the Trojans
responded with just under 14 minutes to play.
scored inside the near post from 25 yards out to set the final score.
“After the two
penalty kicks evened the match, we needed to go get the lead again,” Forgey
said. “This team could have gone negative, but this group is full of
winners. They were determined and sure enough, when we needed it most, the
heart and soul of our team Olivia Hansen steps up and scores the goal.”
Sisson added 13 saves in the win.
“Our defense had
done a great job,” Forgey said. “LC did their best to play balls in behind
and put us under pressure. I really can’t say enough about how well our
defense has been playing.”
