The Chesterton girls soccer team had little trouble in picking up a 5-0 non-conference victory at Elkhart Central on Saturday.

“We wanted to add Elkhart Central to strengthen our schedule,” Chesterton coach Ben Forgey said. “This was the first time we played them and it was a good test.”

The Trojans got a pair of goals from Addy Joiner, while Ashlee Bakaitis, Kaitlyn Kogl and Olivia Kesling also tallied goals in the win.

“We didn’t play our best soccer in the first half,” Forgey said. “We were much better in the second half. We played with more composure and purpose.”

Kogl and Bakaitis each recorded as assist.

“Addy and Ashlee had their usual good performances,” Forgey said. “We had just as good of attacking performances from our center mids, especially Kaitlyn Kogl.”

Carley Balas and Hollie Skoczek combined in goal for the shutout.

“Our defense is taking pride in completing games without conceding any goals,” Forgey said. “It did take one very good save from Carley (Balas) to keep it, but our defense did a great job of not allowing many chances.”

Chesterton returns to the field on Tuesday when they travel to Crown Point to take on the Bulldogs. The JV game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
