The Chesterton girls soccer team had little trouble in picking up a season-opening 10-0 Duneland Athletic Conference victory over Michigan City on Tuesday night.

“It was nice to get the season started,” Chesterton coach Ben Forgey said. “We played some nice soccer, got lots of minutes for a lot of girls and avoided any injuries.”

Scoring goals for the Trojans were Novi Lopez, Addy Joiner (2), Ashlee Bakaitis, Sydney Stott (2), Kaitlyn Kogl, Annalisa Hackett, Olivia Vesling and Grace Bamber.

Assists came from Lopez, Vesling, Gina Geenen, Stott and Caroline Liapes.

Carley Balas and Hollie Skoczek combined in goal for the shutout.

Chesterton travels to South Bend for the St. Joe Invitational beginning Friday night.

“Now we’ll focus on playing three top 10 teams in the State this weekend before facing Valparaiso on Tuesday,” Forgey said. “It will be nice to face such quality opposition to see where we are this early in the season.”
