The Chesterton girls soccer team did its part.

The Trojans cruised to a 6-0 victory over Hobart in the semifinals of the IHSAA Chesterton Sectional to advance to Saturday’s championship match against Valparaiso.

“This was a funny game,” Chesterton coach Ben Forgey said. “It wasn’t our best performance, but I’ll take any win in the post-season.”

Goal scorers for the Trojans included Addy Joiner, Grace Bamber, Olivia Virgil, Annalisa Hackett, Nikki Groceman and Sophie DeRuntz.

“We got to rotate players similar to Tuesday and we escaped injury-free,” Forgey said. “We should be well rested and ready for Saturday.”

The Trojans will face off against undefeated Valparaiso at 2 p.m. on Saturday for the title.

“As a team, we really can’t wait for Saturday,” Forgey said. “Valpo’s a terrific, athletic team. But we’ve improved greatly since we played them early in the season. It’s a Sectional Final with the two best teams in the Region. It will be fun.”
