CHS Girls Hoops wins regular season finale

The Chesterton girls basketball team turned up the defense on Senior Night and cruised to a regular-season ending 67-34 victory over Andrean on Friday night.

The Trojans built a commanding 15-1 lead after one quarter and grew the lead to 38-7 at the half.

Courtney Krol led the Trojans with 27 points, while Ashley Craycraft (11 points) and Sarah Dzierba (10 points) each reached double figures.

Rounding out the scoring were Marney Sisson (8 points), Molly Slatcoff (5 points), Hailey Vale (4 points) and Maddie Scott (2 points).

Chesterton hit on 27-of-57 shots (47 percent) from the floor, while holding Andrean to just 13-of-34 (38 percent).

The Trojans return to the floor on Wednesday night in the IHSAA Sectional at Kankakee Valley. Chesterton will face Valparaiso in their opener and the tip is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 53, Andrean 24

The Chesterton junior varsity finished its season 16-6 overall following a 53-24 victory over Andrean on Friday night.

Offensively, Nalani Malackowski led the way with 16 points, while Kaitlyn Carr and Emma Schmidt each added nine points.

Rounding out the scoring were Addison Gentry (7 points), Hollie Skoczek (3 points), Jaelynne Corral (2 points), Tori Gerhardt (2 points), Dani Plinovich (2 points), Sophia Raffin (2 points) and Riley Hoekema (1 point).
