Crown Point girls basketball is undefeated and proved it again on Friday night as they won the outright Duneland Athletic Conference title with a 60-33 victory over the Trojans.

“Are they better than us? Certainly,” Chesterton coach Jack Campbell said. “Their parts, length and athleticism is tremendous.”

The Trojans stayed with the Bulldogs through the first 11 minutes, trailing just 18-15 after a 7-2 run to start the second quarter.

“Every time we’ve watched them, teams try to play with them. You can’t do it,” Campbell said. “You have to lengthen every possession. The first quarter and a half, we did that and we were in it.”

Crown Point answered the run with a 12-0 run to garner a 32-18 halftime advantage.

“You have to take care of the ball and try not to give them turnover baskets and when they went on their run, that’s what we did,” Campbell said.

On the night, the Trojans hit 15-of-41 (37 percent) shots from the floor, while Crown Point was 20-of-61 (33 percent).

The Bulldogs were also 15-of-22 from the foul line. Chesterton did not shoot a free throw in the contest.

“When the other team presses you the entire game, it’s hard to believe you never shoot a free throw.

“They don’t need the help,” Campbell said. “It’s hard to run your half-court offense too when they are laying all over you.”

Chesterton returns to the floor on Tuesday when they travel to Knox. The junior varsity game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. tipoff.
