CHS Girls Hoops beats Hammond Morton

The Chesterton girls basketball team blew open an early 7-7 game with a 19-2 run to end the first quarter and cruised to a 76-49 non-conference victory at Hammond Morton on Tuesday night.

Hailey Vale dominated the interior of the floor with a 25-point performance for the Trojans that included 10-of-14 shooting from the floor.

Courtney Krol provided the outside punch with a 16-point night, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range.

Rounding out the scoring for Chesterton were Sarah Dzierba (8 points), Nalani Malackowski (6 points), Marney Sisson (5 points), Molly Slatcoff (4 points), Maddie Scott (3 points), Kelly Carr (2 points) and Haley Moore (1 point).

Sisson led the battle on the backboards with a team-high nine rebounds and also dished out a team-best five assists. Scott led the way defensively with three steals.

The Trojans open Duneland Athletic Conference play on Friday night when they host Lake Central. The junior varsity game is set for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.

The Chesterton girls junior varsity basketball team allowed just two points through three quarter en route to a 42-9 victory at Hammond Morton.

Sydney Balas led the Trojans with 15 points, while Hollie Skoczek tallied 12 points.

Rounding out the scoring were Nalani Malackowski (7 points), Kaitlyn Carr (4 points), Jaelynne Corral (2 points) and Tori Gerhardt (2 points).
