Tee Time!

The Chesterton girls golf team will get the 2019 fall sports season started when they travel to Battleground Golf Club to take part in the Lafayette Jeff Invitational today.

“We return a solid core from last year’s varsity,” first year head coach Tommy Berry said.

Senior Madi Simms returns to fight for a spot at the top of the Trojan lineup, along with sophomore Katelyn McCoy and junior Peyton Martinson.

“Katelyn has really put the time in over the summer to improve and has played in numerous NIJGA tournaments,” Berry said. “Peyton is a two-year varsity player that is getting healthy right now. She’s a great competitor who will continue to get better throughout the season.”

Addison Gentry returns as a junior with two years of varsity experience and junior Zoe Swanson also got varsity experience last year.

“Addison played a lot of rounds over the summer,” Berry said. “Zoe has really worked hard this summer on her game and has played in a lot of tourneys.”

Also competing for spots in the varsity lineup are juniors Bella Auricchio and Bethany House, along with sophomore Paige House.

CHS is coming off a season that saw them finish runner-up in the Sectional and broke 400 as a team for the first time last season at the Regional.

“Our initial goal is to compete and battle for the DAC Championship,” Berry said. “We have some great Invitationals that we are in and we are hoping we can make that next step. Hopefully we’ll be peaking at the right time, near the end of the season, and have a chance to compete for a Sectional title, Regional berth and move on to the State Finals.”

The rest of the Trojan roster consists of senior Kayla Haynes, juniors Lauren Konopacki, Julia Larson and Annika Pierce.

Sophomores Mollie Haughtington and Miranda Miller, along with freshmen Lizzy Gray, Sydney Orsburn, Jessica Moore and Emily Pritchett round out the squad.
