First year coach
Toby Gentry will have a veteran group to watch as the CHS Girls Golf team
gets its season underway today.
The Trojans will
head to BattleGround Golf Club in West Lafayette for the Lafayette Jeff
Invitational to start the 2020 campaign.
“We’ve got four of
our top five back from last year,” Gentry said. “We have a lot of experience
back that has been through it before.”
McCoy will hold down the top spot in the lineup for the Trojans.
“Katelyn is capable
of the low 40s every time out,” Gentry said. “She’s striking the ball well
right now. The short game is something that is coming around.”
Gentry will play in the No. 2 spot after shaving 10 strokes off her score
over the summer. Classmate Peyton Martinson, who missed most of last season,
will play No. 3.
“Peyton is playing
great,” Gentry said. “It’s a huge thing to have her back. She is so much
better than she was when the season ended. It’s remarkable.”
Senior Zoe Swanson
will play No. 4, while Paige House and Bethany House will vie for the final
spot in the lineup.
“I think we have a
shot to get out of the Regional,” Gentry said. “I feel like, if we can be
consistent, our top 4-5 can put us right there.”
