CHS Girls fall in finals at holiday tourney

Chelsea Jackson hit two free throws with :01 on the clock in the opener of the Warsaw Holiday Tournament on Tuesday to lift the Chesterton girls basketball team to a 51-49 victory over Perry Meridian.

Shannon McCoy led the Trojans with 15 points, while Hailey Vale added 13 points in the victory.

Rounding out the scoring for CHS were Brittany Privett (9 points), Courtney Krol (7 points), Jackson (5 points) and Sydney Sisson (2 points).

The Trojans hit on 20-of-37 (54 percent) from the field, while holding Perry Meridian to 15-of-45 (33 percent).

In the finals, Chesterton fell 47-31 to Warsaw.

Sarah Dzierba led the offense with six points, while Jenna Wadding added five points.

Rounding out the scoring were McCoy (4 points), Vale (4 points), Privett (4 points), Jackson (3 points), Tarnowski (3 points) and Krol (2 points).

Chesterton returns to the court on Friday, Jan. 6 when they host Merrillville in a boys-girls doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The Chesterton junior varsity finished runner-up at the Warsaw Holiday Tournament on Tuesday.

In the opener, the Trojans beat Perry Meridian 41-40 as Ashley Craycraft led the offense with 12 points.

Rounding out the scoring in the opener were Marney Sisson (9 points), Haley Moore (7 points), Annika Babcock (6 points), Molly Slatcoff (6 points) and Evelynn Pabon (1 point).

In the championship, Chesterton fell 52-33 to Warsaw as Moore led the charge with nine points.

Rounding out the scoring in the finals were Slatcoff (8 points), Sydney Balas (6 points), Craycraft (3 points), Pabon (3 points), Sydni Vale (2 points) and Nikki Arndt (2 points).
