The Chesterton girls left little doubt on Prelim night.

The Trojans finished 1-2 in all eight individual events and went 1-2-3 in five of those events as they set themselves up to win an 18th straight IHSAA Sectional title Thursday night.

“It’s hard to get motivated and fired up for Prelim Night,” Chesterton coach Kevin Kinel said. “But, the girls really came to swim and swam pretty strong. I think our confidence is pretty high heading in to Saturday.”

The Trojans sent all 24 individual swimmers into the finals and took the top seed in all three relays.

“Our relays did what they needed to do,” Kinel said. “We had real safe starts and exchanges. We’ve got some decisions to make for Saturday. Everyone did their job.”

Chesterton had three swimmers earn the top seed in two events, including Cara Kroeger (200 IM, 100 Back), Andrea Hanas (50 Free, 100 Free) and Lauryn Kallay (200 Free, 500 Free).

“This group understands how well we could do at State and understands the process,” Kinel said. “We had very few off swims last night.”

Aubrey Wing turned in the night’s top swim when she set the Pool and Sectional Record in the 100 Breaststroke (1:04.69).

“Aubrey is a big meet swimmer,” Kinel said. “She always comes on at the end of the year and she’s doing it again. She’s swimming with a lot of confidence.”

The IHSAA Diving Sectional prelims will begin on Saturday at 9 a.m. and the Swimming Finals are scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at CHS.
