CHS Girls blow out Gary Roosevelt

The Chesterton girls basketball team started the 2014 portion of its schedule with a 92-23 blowout victory over Gary Roosevelt on Friday night.

Leading 9-6 in the first quarter, CHS took control with a 25-3 run that lasted into the middle of the second quarter. The Trojans led 54-14 ar halftime.

Chesterton blistered the nets by hitting on 40-of-59 shots (68 percent) from the field and forced 30 turnovers in the victory.

Caroline Puntillo led the CHS offense with 23 points (11-of-17 shooting), while McKenzie Sullivan added 13 points. Hailee Norton and Natalie Petro also scored in double figures with 11 points each.

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 58, Gary Roosevelt 2

The Chesterton junior varsity allowed just one basket in garnering a 58-2 victory over Gary Roosevelt Friday night.

Lia Lombardini led the Trojan offense with 12 points, while Tara Schnadenberg added nine points. Jenna Tarnowski, Taylor Eaton, Shannon McCoy and Morgan Skube all tallied six points.

Rounding out the scoring were Sam Warren (4 points), Megan Kerkes (3 points), Teresa Raffin (2 points), Camie Brown (2 points) and Xaundra Rodriguez (2 points).

Raffin led the Trojans with six rebounds as Skube and Warren each recorded five steals. Tarnowski dished out a team-best three assists.
