The Chesterton girls split a pair of games over the weekend, including a 60-15 victory at Mishawaka on Saturday and falling 50-45 to Munster on Friday.

Against Munster, the Trojans trailed 35-24 at the half but dominated the third quarter to pull within 38-34.

“It would have been easy to fold your tents and get blown out tonight,” Chesterton head coach Jack Campbell said. “The girls did a good job of just battling their way back into the game.”

Carley Balas scored the first six points of the period to get Chesterton going and finished with a team-high 17 points.

“In the third quarter we were able to get back in the game,” Campbell said. “We made some adjustments defensively and got some scoring at the basket from Carley. Hopefully that’ll give her some confidence that we can score with the ball in there.”

The Trojans got within 43-40 after back-to-back baskets from Emma Schmidt and Balas and were within 47-45 with 53.5 seconds left.

Ashley Craycraft finished with 10 points and Schmidt added seven for the Trojans. Rounding out the scoring were Nalani Malackowski (4 points), Kaitlyn Carr (3 points), Emma Pape (2 points) and Lauren Davis (2 points).

Against Mishawaka, the Trojans blew out to a 26-3 halftime lead and cruised to the victory.

Malackowski led CHS with 14 points and Craycraft added 12 points. Balas tallied nine points and Hollie Skoczek contributed seven points.

Rounding out the scoring were Pape (5 points), Schmidt (5 points), Davis (4 points), Jaelynne Corral (2 points) and Carr (2 points).

Pape led the Trojans on the backboards with four rebounds, while Craycraft recorded eight steals in the win. Skoczek dished out a team-best three assists.

Chesterton hit on 24-of-48 shots (.500) from the field and knocked down eight 3-pointers.

The Trojans return to the court on Tuesday when they travel to Hammond Morton. The JV game is set for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
