The Chesterton High
School football team just opened up a spot on its 2020 schedule with the

High School Association (IHSA).

The IHSA postponed
the football season due to continuing concerns with the coronavirus
pandemic. The Trojans were scheduled to play St. Rita in Chicago on Aug. 28.
“I think it’s
unfortunate to hear of the change in Illinois as it directly impacts us,”
Chesterton head football coach Mark Peterson said. “It’s understandable and
they are taking every precaution to keep the kids safe.
“I don’t know where
we stand yet.”
The IHSA’s new plan
is to have the football season from Feb. 15 to May 1. Girls volleyball and
boys soccer will also be moved to that same time.
The only fall
sports to be conducted will be boys and girls cross country, boys and girls
golf, girls tennis and girls swimming. They are all scheduled to begin on
Aug. 10 and end on Oct. 17.
Illinois state tournaments will be made “on a sport-by-sport basis as each
season progresses,” according to the IHSA’s news release.
