CHS Boys win Sectional opener in soccer

The No. 3 ranked Chesterton boys soccer team opened its post-season with a solid 7-3 victory over Kankakee Valley in the opening round of the IHSAA Crown Point Sectional.

“We knew going into the game that they had some key players that do a good job of creating opportunities,” Chesterton coach Lucas Sabedra said. “I was happy with the way we executed in the offensive third. Our team is coming together at the right time.”

Goal scorers for the Trojans were Matteo Guerrero, Zack Bowser (2), Ryan O’Dell (3) and Gage Torres. Assists were handed out by Bowser, Nick Biel and Torres.

Charlie Eaton and Ethan Boedeker each made one save in the victory.

The Trojans return to the field tonight to take on Valparaiso in the semifinals beginning at 7 p.m. at Crown Point High School.

The Championship match is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday.
