CHS Boys Volleyball finishes 2nd

The Chesterton boys volleyball team finished second overall in the 9-team “Border Battle” Volleyball Tournament at CHS on Saturday.

The Trojans went 3-1 on the day and jumped eight spots to No. 3 in the newest Indiana Boys Volleyball State Rankings.

In the opening match, Chesterton, previously ranked No. 8, beat No. 3 Carmel 25-19, 25-18.

Leading the way for the Trojans were Ben Raffin (5 kills, 2 aces), Nick Mullen (4 kills, 2 blocks), Andrew Urycki (3 kills, 2 blocks) and Jack Tilden (2 kills, 2 blocks).

In round two, the Trojans knocked off Elk Grove 21-25, 25-21, 15-7 as Raffin and Urycki had eight kills each and combined for four blocks.

Tilden (5 kills, 3 blocks), Kody Wilkerson (4 kills, 1 block) and Mullen (2 kills, 2 blocks) also contributed to the win.

In the playoffs, Chesterton beat No. 2 Fishers 22-25, 25-19, 17-15 with Raffin tallying 11 kills and two blocks.

Also contributing to the win were Mullen (8 kills, 3 blocks), Wilkerson (6 kills), Andrew Zimmerman (5 kills) and Tilden (3 kills, 2 blocks).

In the championship, the Trojans fell to Oak Forest 22-25, 25-13, 15-13.

Raffin led the way with eight kills and three blocks with Mullen adding five kills and three blocks. Also contributing were Wilkerson (4 kills, 2 blocks) and Zimmerman (3 blocks).

Chesterton returns to the court on Friday and Saturday when they head to Chicago to compete in the Brother Rice “Smack Attack” Tournament.
