The Chesterton boys track team finished second at the Valparaiso Relays on
Friday night by winning four events.
Valparaiso took top honors with 111 points, followed by Chesterton (100),
Mishawaka (96), East Chicago Central (60) and Highland (38) in the top five.
“I was very pleased and happy,” Chesterton coach John Snyder said. “We
finally got a great day to go after some PR’s and we did.”
The Trojans not only went after PR’s on Friday, but made two attacks on CHS
school records.
Kody Galloway won the high jump for Chesterton by clearing 6-foot-8 and made
three solid attempts at 6-11 as he tried to eclipse Matt Nover’s record of
6-10.
“Kody Galloway with a long jump of 22-1 and a clearing 6-8 in the high jump
with three good try’s at 6-11 was really great to see,” Snyder said.
“There’s a barrier in the jumps and I think he’s gotten past that now and
I’m really excited to see that.”
Justin Zosso won the pole vault before missing at 15-feet-1 as he tried to
best Andy Wheele’s school record of 15-0.
“Justin Zosso had three really good jumps at 15-1 as he gets closer and
closer to that school record in the pole vault,” Snyder said.
The Trojans also won the shot put with the tandem of Dan Dellumo and Nathan
Brock.
“Nathan Brock throwing around 48 feet in the shot put is big for us,” Snyder
said. “If he keeps doing that he can score points for us next week at the
Conference Meet.”
Other notable field events performance came in the high jump from Kyle
Galloway and Donnie Johnson.
“Kyle Galloway and Donnie Johnson going 5-10 in the high jump and making
good attempts at 6-0 is nice to see,” Snyder said.
On the track, the Trojans littered the track with PR’s.
“Andrew Kearney going 9:52 in the two-mile is great for him and a
significant PR,” Snyder said. “Tyler Rusboldt’s 4:27 in the 1600 was a PR by
about 17 seconds. He’s just getting better and better and starting to
realize it.
“Dana Konchar had a PR in the 4x400. Archie Sullivan had a PR split in the
400 too.”
And Chesterton’s top line kids seem to be getting ready for next week’s DAC
Meet on Wednesday at Portage.
“Ryan Cutter’s 4:21.5 to anchor the distance medley was a great run,” Snyder
said. “Jon Watson had two nice runs in the 400. He’s starting to come around
at the right time.
“Richie Ruff continues to show a lot of promise in the 110 high’s.”
