CHS Boys Tennis wins Portage Invitational

The Chesterton boys tennis team won the 8-team Portage Invitational on Saturday.

The Trojans tallied 43 points to edge runner-up South Bend St. Joe (40). Centerville (36), Triton (24), Portage (20), Bethany Christian (19), Merrillville (13) and South Bend Clay (10) rounded out the field.

Troy Feller at No. 3 singles and the duo of James Navarro and Drew Engels at No. 2 doubles were flight winners for CHS.

Feller picked up wins over South Bend Clay, Triton and Centerville, while Navarro and Engels beat South Bend St. Joe, Centerville and Portage.

At No. 1 singles, Luke Liapes finished second overall with victories over Centerville and Triton. Liapes lost to South Bend St. Joe in the finals.

At No. 2 singles, Fabio Haiduc was third with wins over Portage and Triton and a loss to South Bend St. Joe.

At No. 1 doubles, Corydon Gaff and Nick Hanson finished second with victories over Trigon and Centerville before losing to South Bend St. Joe in the finals.

Chesterton returns to the court tonight when they host Lowell beginning at 4:15 p.m. and again on Tuesday when they travel to Lake Central for a DACcontest at 4:15 p.m.
