CHS Boys Tennis wins

The Chesterton boys tennis team improved to 3-1 in Duneland Athletic Conference play with a 4-1 victory at Merrillville on Thursday.

In singles, Luke Liapes beat Cameron Louthan 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2, while Azeez Lakhani beat Noah Trepstra 7-5, 6-0 at No. 3.

In doubles, Corydon Gaff and Nick Hanson had little trouble in a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 over Justin Vilaneva and Tony Williamson.

Drew Engels and James Navarro finished the team score with a 6-3, 0-6, 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles over Ivan Sahagun and Josh Raddatz.

The Trojans return to the court on Saturday when they travel to Lowell Invitational.

Chesterton 4, Merrillville 1


Singles -- 1. Justin Jackson (M) def. Chad Whelan 7-5, 6-2; 2. Luke Liapes def. Cameron Louthan 6-2, 6-3; 3. Azeez Lakahni def. Noah Trepstra 7-5, 6-0.

Doubles -- 1. Corydon Gaff/Nick Hanson def. Justin Villaneva/Tony Williamson 6-0, 6-0; 2. Drew Engels/James Navarro def. Ivan Sahagun/Josh Raddatz 6-3, 0-6, 6-2.

Record: Chesterton 4-3 (3-1 DAC).

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 7, Merrillville 1

The Chesterton junior varsity beat Merrillville 7-1 on Thursday.

In singles, Troy Feller (No. 1), Danny Vear (No. 2) and Aiden Li (No. 3) swept their opponents in victories.

In doubles, Sawyer Metz/Joe Wadowski (No. 2), John Petro/Drake Redman (No. 3), Eli Hoffman/Connor Potesta (No. 4) and Dimitri Nicholson/Daniel Anderson (No. 5) were winners.
