CHS boys tennis team gets another conference win

The Chesterton boys tennis team improved to 4-0 in Duneland Athletic Conference play with a 4-1 victory over Merrillville on Thursday.

After waiting out the rain and allowing the courts to dry, singles winners for the Trojans included Matt Jewison over Justin Jackson 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 and Corydon Gaff over Cameron Lauthan 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3.

In doubles, Blake Ellenwood and Chad Whelan beat Justin Villanueva and Tony Williamson 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1.

The final Trojan point came from Paul Petro and Luke Liapes 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2 over Ivan Sahagon and Josh Raddatz.

Chesterton returns to the court on Tuesday when the travel to Valparaiso to take on the Vikings. The match is set for a 4:15 p.m. start.

Singles - 1. Matt Jewison def. Justin Jackson 6-0, 6-0; 2. Keith Rochefort (M) def. Nick Hanson 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-4; 3. Corydon Gaff def. Cameron Lauthan 6-3, 6-2.

Doubles - 1. Blake Ellenwood/Chad Whelan def. Justin Villanueva/Tony Williamson 6-1, 6-0; 2. Paul Petro/Luke Liapes def. Ivan Sahagon/Josh Raddatz 6-2, 7-5.

Record: Chesterton 4-3 (4-0 DAC).

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 5, Merrillville 0

The Chesterton junior varsity swept Merrillville 5-0 on Thursday.

In singles, winners were Azeez Lakhani (No. 1), Aiden Li (No. 2) and John Petron (No. 3). In doubles, the duos of Creighton Gaff and Drew Engels (No. 1) and Nate Rubino and Danny Vear (No. 2) were victorious.
