The Chesterton boys tennis team saw its season come to an end in the opening round of the IHSAA Portage Regional on Tuesday as the Trojans dropped a 4-1 decision to Penn.

“It never gets easier standing in front of a team when the season ends,” Chesterton coach Tom Bour said. “All I could do is tell them how proud I am of them and that they have so much to hold their heads up high for.”

The Trojans lone victory came at No. 1 doubles where Blake Ellenwood and Chad Whelan beat Eric Spaargaren and Aiden O’Day 6-2, 6-1. The victory allows the duo to continue playing in the individual state tournament.

“Blake and Chad continued to stay hot,” Bour said. “It’s going to be a fun ride seeing how far these two can go in the State Tournament.”

The DAC champion Trojans finished the season 10-6 overall.

“These guys represented Chesterton Tennis, its coaches and its community really well all year,” Bour said.
