CHS boys swim team set for 22nd straight Sectional title

The Chesterton boys swim team opened its post-season run with an impressive showing at the IHSAA Sectional prelims at Valparaiso High School on Thursday night.

The Trojans will own the top three seeds in Saturday’s finals in five individual events and the top two seeds in two events. CHS is also the top seed in all three relays.

“I’m excited for the transition from prelims to finals,” Chesterton coach Mat Pavlovich said. “Valpo runs a great meet and the atmosphere on Saturday will yield even better swims.”

The Trojans will own the top three seeds in the 200 Free led by Gabriel Eschbach (1:45.20), Jordan Killosky (1:45.59) and Gabe Kroeger (1:46.80) and the 200 IM with the trio of Lucas Piunti (1:58.11), Carter Casbon (2:01.98) and Aidan Tharp (2:02.99).

In the 100 Fly, it will be Connor Casbon (51.16), Alejandro Kincaid (51.48) and Scott Pejic (54.68). The 100 Back will include Kincaid (51.35), Piunti (52.94) and Connor Casbon (55.21), while the 100 Breaststroke will be the trio of Andrew Alders (59.42), Beckham Mountford (1:00.24) and Ryan Schlyer (1:02.85).

Chesterton owns the top two seeds in the 100 Free with Alders (47.88) and Kroeger (48.51) and the 500 Free with the duo of Killosky (4:41.78) and Eschbach (4:44.21).

The Trojans took the top seed in all three relays beginning with the 200 Medley team of Kincaid, Alders, Connor Casbon and Piunti (1:35.09).

They will also be the No. 1 seed in the 200 Free Relay with the group of Carter Casbon, Connor Casbon, Danny Vear and Eschbach (1:29.45) and the 400 Free Relay with the quartet of Piunti, Kroeger, Eschbach and Kincaid (1:19.60).

The Finals are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday at Valparaiso High School with all event winners and those hitting the State Cut time qualifying for next weekend’s State Finals in Indianapolis.
