The Chesterton boys
soccer team opened the season with a 2-1 victory at Boone Grove on Monday
“We had 22 shots on
goal and felt like we possessed the ball for 80 percent of the game,”
first-year coach Lucas Sabedra said. “We will need more organization moving
forward. This is a young team with plenty of room to grow.”
The Trojans got
goals from Zach Bowser and Robbie Capehart in the win, while Bowser and Ryan
O’Dell dished out assists.
Bowser had seven shots on goal each,” Sabedra said. “Nick Biel played a big
part in keeping composure and balance in our midfield.”
The Wolves managed
just three shots on goal as keeper Peter Girzadas collected two saves.
“We needed to do a
better job communicating on defense,” Sabedra said. “Although they only had
three opportunities shooting at our goal, they capitalized on one of them.”
The Trojans return
to the field on Wednesday when they host Michigan City. The JV game is
scheduled for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
