The Chesterton boys soccer team continued to roll through the competition with a 3-0 Duneland Athletic Conference victory at Crown Point on Thursday.

“It was an amazing team effort that eventually paid off after grinding out the first half,” Chesterton coach Lucas Sabedra said. “We have kept a clean sheet in our conference. Our teamwork and defensive discipline is something the boys really have pride in.”

The No. 3 ranked Trojans broke open a scoreless first half with just under 15 minutes to play in the game as Seth Conway found the back of the net off a pass from Nick Biel.

“In the second half, we came out with an attacking mindset,” Sabedra said. “We had a lot of pressure in their half and Nick eventually found Seth on a perfect through ball. Seth was one-on-one with the goalie and buried it in the bottom right corner.”

Andy VanNoort forced the game to 2-0 when he carried the ball down the left side of the field and crossed a ball into the box that went off a Bulldog defender and into the goal for a 2-0 lead.

VanNoort then set the final score less than three minutes later when he scored on a free kick from 30 yards out.

“Andrew was buzzing, so he took the free kick and buried it,” Sabedra said.

Charlie Eaton recorded five saves in the shutout victory.

The Trojans return to the field on Saturday when they host Highland. The JV game is set for a 3 p.m. start.
