CHS Boys Soccer beats LaPorte 4-1

Senior Night is always filled with emotion.

Wednesday night was no different for the Chesterton boys soccer team as they picked up a regular-season ending 4-1 Duneland Athletic Conference victory over LaPorte.

“It’s nice to pick up the win for the seniors on an emotional night for them and their parents,” Chesterton coach Jamie Sensibaugh said. “Those nine seniors have dedicated so much of their time to our program and have been a big part of the success we have had the last four years.”

Harley Lohmeyer scored the game’s opening goal on a penalty kick and Robbie Capehart added another goal for a 2-0 halftime lead. Andrew VanNoort and Seth Conway added goals in the second half.

Lohmeyer and Caleb Haire each dished out assists in the victory.

Doug Filipek tallied five saves and Nick Harmon added two more.

“On to Sectionals,” Sensibaugh said. “Everything up to this point has been window dressing. Anything that matters in any sport is how you end.”

The Trojans open post-season play on Wednesday when they play the winner of Michigan City-Portage at Merrillville. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.

“We’re battle tested and I don’t think very many teams have had the strength of schedule like we have,” Sensibaugh said. “Hopefully we’ve learned a lot of valuable lessons and can use that to string together some big wins down the road.”
