Austin Peterson may have finally had his breakout game.

The 6-foot-5 senior forward hit 11-of-14 shots from the field, including 6-of-9 from 3-point range, on his way to 28 points in a 67-52 non-conference victory for the Trojans at Andrean Wednesday night.

The 59ers scored the game’s first basket, but seven Jake Wadding points put Chesterton on top 18-6 after one quarter.

Ky Palombizio took over in the second quarter with nine points as the lead stayed at 12, 31-19 at halftime.

Peterson established himself in the second half with 21 points, including 14 in the third quarter. Peterson has been playing most of the season with a partially torn patellar tendon, but believes he is getting closer to 100 percent.

“Austin had his two best practices of his life the last two days,” Chesterton coach Marc Urban said. “We’ve learned a lot from the Merrillville loss.”

The Trojans return to the court on Friday when they travel to Crown Point for a girl/boy doubleheader. The girls game is slated for a 5:30 p.m. start with the boys game to follow.
