CHS Baseball wins at RailCats stadium

The Chesterton baseball team wasted little time dusting off the bats Saturday in a 7-1 victory over Griffith at RailCats Stadium in Gary.

The Trojans got lead off walks in the bottom of the first to Andrew Ralph and Jordan Morandini ahead of an Aery Pratt double that plated both. After Pratt moved to third on a single by Michael Crowley, Austin VanderZandenís ground out made the score 3-0.

The onslaught continued in the second as Corey Rusboldt was hit by a pitch and Michael Griffin doubled to score him.

After an infield single by Ralph, Jordan Morandini reached on a fielderís choice that scored Griffin. Pratt walked and Crowley singled ahead of a bases loaded walk to VanderZanden for a 6-0 lead.

Another run in the third inning came across as Rusboldt singled with one out and moved to second on a walk to Griffin. Ralph loaded the bases with another single and Rusboldt scored on a wild pitch.

Offensively, Ralph and Crowley each had a pair of singles, while VanderZanden and Pratt had two RBIís each.

Mitch Kobitz cruised through five innings before finally allowing a run in the sixth. Kobitz earned the win by completing six innings, allowing three hits and striking out five.

Dallas Milligan worked the final frame in relief.
