CHS Baseball walks off with DAC win

Back To Front Page

The Chesterton baseball team continues to find ways to score late in games.

One night after winning in the bottom of the seventh, the Trojans did it again in a 3-2 Duneland Athletic Conference victory over LaPorte on Tuesday.

Kolton Cardenas walked to start the last frame in a 2-2 game. Zach Zimmerman reached on an error with one out and Cardenas scampered all the way home with the game-winning run.

The Trojans took an early 1-0 lead as Zach McKenna singled home Tyler Nelson after his two-out double in the first.

LaPorte answered with two runs in the third before Chesterton tied the game in the sixth. Jeremy Krantz led off with a walk and moved to second on Nelson’s single to left. Krantz and Nelson moved up 90 feet on a wild pitch.

Haydn Malackowski’s ground ball to second scored Krantz to tie the game at 2-2.

Offensively, Nelson had three of the Trojans’ five hits. Zach McKenna and Zach Westphal each tallied singles in the win.

Ben Collins worked the first four innings and struck out five before giving way to Chad Dzierba who threw three innings and struck out three.
