Welcome to Chesterton, Frank Raudry.

The Hammond Morton transfer went 2-for-2 with a pair of home runs in his debut as the Trojan baseball team picked up a 6-0 shutout victory in their season opener against Bishop Noll on Thursday night.

“Frank had a great debut in Chesterton,” Trojan coach Jack Campbell said. “We played well. Everyone executed and did things well.”

Raudry hit a two-run homer in the first inning to get the Trojans on the board and hit a solo shot in the fourth.

“We hit the ball pretty well,” Campbell said of the team’s 10-hit attack. “We got key hits when we needed them. Zack Novak had a pair of hits and so did Kevin Gates.”

On the mound, starter Steve Janes dominated the Warriors lineup by allowing just one hit and striking out six in five innings of work.

“Steve really pitched well,” Campbell said. “He was ahead in the count just about every batter he faced. It didn’t surprise me because he’s thrown well inside.”

Freshman Alex Olson came in to pitch the final two innings in his varsity debut.

“Alex was a little nervous,” Campbell said. “He threw the ball really well and you don’t bring him up and not let him throw. He got behind a little and worked his way out of it.

“I think it was mostly first game jitters.”

The Trojans used a two-run single from Ryan Lindquist to plate John Thanos and Jack Wilson in the second inning and set the final score with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

“At any point the lineup we put out there could change drastically,” Campbell said. “We have a lot of kids that got in the game and we have kids that are waiting for their chance.”

Those chances could come as early as this weekend when the Trojans head to Lafayette where they’ll faced No. 1-ranked Noblesville Saturday morning. They also face state-ranked Lafayette Jeff on Saturday.

“We’ll use a lot of pitchers this weekend and that’s how we’ll find out what we have,” Campbell said. “We’ll get a chance to use a lot of kids and put them in position to make plays.”
