The Chesterton
baseball team finished its regular season by splitting a pair of games in
Carmel at the Greyhound Invitational.
In the opener, the
Trojans beat Indianapolis Scecina 10-0 in five innings.
Chesterton exploded
offensively early with an eight-run second inning as they pounded out 10
hits in the win led by two-hit games from Kolton Cardenas, Brett Roeske
(triple) and Chris Torres.
Also recording hits
were Tommy Benson (double), Austin Peterson, Logan Lawson (triple) and Chris
VanEekeren.
Torres worked the
first four innings on the mound to record the victory and struck out eight.
Chad Dzierba threw the final frame and struck out one.
In the second game,
the Trojans couldn’t dent the scoreboard in a 9-0 loss to South Dearborn.
Chesterton’s
offense was led by VanEekeren with two hits, while Patrick Sosby and Jeremy
Krantz each had a hit.
Brayden Cortwright
took the loss after working the first 4 1/3 innings and striking out six.
Dizerba worked one inning and struck out one, while Logan Lawson finished
the final 1 2/3 innings and recorded one strikeout.
The Trojans return
to the field on Wednesday when they open the IHSAA Chesterton Sectional
against Merrillville at 5 p.m.
