CHS Baseball improves to 2-0

Back To Front Page

The Chesterton baseball team got a 12-strikeout performance from Mitch Kobitz and provided just enough offense in getting a 5-0 victory over East Chicago Central on Wednesday.

Kobitz dominated the game from the first pitch as he struck out the side in each of the first two innings.

The Trojans cracked the scoreboard in the second as Mike Crowley started the frame with a leadoff walk. Corey Rusboldt reached on an error that scored Crowley.

Kobitz reached on an error and a double steal plated Rusboldt for a 2-0 lead.

That was all the offense Kobitz needed, but his teammates scored three more runs in the third to set the final score.

Aery Pratt’s one-out single started things and Crowley walked. Austin VanderZanden walked to load the bases. Colin McEuen, pinch-running for Pratt, scored on a passed ball.

After Nate Crownover walked to reload the bases, Kobitz drove a two-run single into left field to score Crowley and VanderZanden.

Dallas Milligan worked the final frame on the mound for the Trojans.
