The Chesterton baseball team committed nine errors and dropped a 4-3 Duneland Athletic Conference decision at Michigan City on Thursday.

KJ Zelenika’s double in the top of the first plated Andrew Ralph, who walked to start the game, with the game’s first run and a quick 1-0 Chesterton lead in the first.

Michigan City used the Trojans first error of the night to put a runner on that eventually scored on a wild pitch by Chesterton starter Bobby Humphreys.

The game remained that way until the third inning when Zelenika started a rally with a single and moved to second on JR Frederick’s hit. Nate Crownover’s single scored Zelenika and Frederick scored when Kevin Jones reached on an error for a 3-1 Chesterton lead.

Michigan City cut the lead to 3-2 in the third inning and used two errors by the Trojans to put the final two game-winning runs on the board.

Humphreys allowed just five hits and struck out five, while allowing just one earned run in taking the loss for Chesterton.

Offensively, the Trojans pounded out 10 hits including two each by Zelenika and Frederick.
