The Chesterton baseball team outhit Highland 10-5, but couldn’t overcome five errors and dropped a 9-5 decision on Friday night.

Highland got on the board early with a solo run in the first and two more in the third for a 3-0 lead before the Trojans scratched the surface in the third.

Jake Harmon started the frame with a leadoff single. Chris Boren’s two-out single moved courtesy runner Patrick Sosby to second. Anthony Kurek’s RBI single scored Sosby.

The visiting Trojans blew the game open in the fifth with six runs that included three Chesterton errors and three hit batters from CHS pitchers.

In the bottom of the fifth, Chesterton got a one-out single by Ethan Conway and Owen Hallas reached on a botched fly ball. Boren’s two-run single scored both.

CHS mounted a seventh-inning rally as Hallas walked and Boren singled. Both scored when Erik Ralph’s fly ball was misplayed, but the Trojans got no closer.

Boren had three hits to lead the Chesterton offense, while Kurek added two hits. Hallas scored twice.

Chesterton returns to the field on Tuesday when they travel to LaPorte to take on the Slicers beginning at 4:30 p.m.
