CHS Baseball falls to Crown Point

The Chesterton baseball team fell to 0-2 in Duneland Athletic Conference play after an 8-5 loss to Crown Point in the Trojansí home opener on Wednesday.

CHS broke on top early with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Connor Krantz started the frame with a walk and scored on a double from Garrett Fairbanks.

Fairbanks advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch for a 2-0 Trojan lead.

Crown Point answered with a solo run in the third, three in the fourth and four more in the fifth to build an 8-2 lead.

The Trojans rallied in the bottom of the seventh when Jake Roof reached on a one-out error. Krantz singled to move pinch-runner Ethan Mahaffey to second. Tyler Nelsonís triple scored Krantz and Mahaffey.

Max Wellerís RBI single plated Nelson to set the final score.

Offensively, Zach McKenna had a pair of hits, while Krantz, Fairbanks, Nelson, Weller, Kolton Cardenas and Zimmerman each added a hit.

Ben Collins worked the first 4 1/3 innings and struck out five and Chad Dzierba struck out two in 2 1/3 innings of work.

The Trojans return to the field tonight when they travel to Bishop Noll for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.
