The Chesterton baseball team outhit Andrean 7-5 on Saturday, but couldn’t
push enough runs across the plate in dropping a 5-3 decision.
The game was originally scheduled for Andrean, but moved to Chesterton
because of the weather, causing the Trojans to be the visiting team.
Andrew Ralph started the game with a single and moved to second on a
sacrifice bunt by Jordan Morandini. Aery Pratt reached on an error, scoring
Ralph with the game’s first run.
Andrean would answer with a pair of runs in the second inning, but the
Trojans put on run on the board in the third to tie the game at 2-all. Pratt
walked and Mike Crowley’s RBI double scored him.
Another three-run outburst by the 59ers pushed the lead to 5-2.
Chesterton’s final tally came in the fourth innings when Tyler Sufana
reached to lead off the inning and Austin VanderZanden’s single to right
field put runners on the corners. Michael Griffin’s single to center scored
VanderZanden led the offense with a 3-for-3 day, while Ralph, Crowley,
Sufana and Griffin also contributed one hit each. Mitch Kobitz took the
loss, but allowed just one earned run and struck out three.
The Trojans return to the field on Monday when they travel to LaPorte for a
4:30 p.m. first pitch.
