CHS Baseball beats Michigan City 7-2

Back To Front Page

The Chesterton baseball team pounded out 11 hits and picked up another Duneland Athletic Conference win with a 7-2 victory over Michigan City on Tuesday night.

The Wolves scored a solo run in the top of the first, but the Trojans answered back in their half of the frame.

Connor Krantz led off the inning with an infield single and stole second base. Grant Bruntís single scored Krantz to tie the game at 1-1.

Michigan City scored again in the second thanks in part to a Trojan error and again Chesterton answered on a two-out home run from Kolton Cardenas.

Tommy Bensonís solo home run in the third gave the Trojans a lead they would never relinquish.

In the fourth, Logan Lawson singled and Tyler Nelson drew a walk with one out. Cardenasí RBI single to center scored Lawson. Krantz doubled to score Nelson and Cardenas and push the lead to 6-2.

Grant Bruntís home run to lead off the fifth set the final score.

Offensively, Cardenas, Brunt, Krantz and Brett Roeske each had two hits. Brunt, Cardenas and Krantz also added two RBIís each.

On the mound, Austin Peterson worked the first six innings and struck out seven. Stephen Gilbertsen pitched the final frame and struck out two.

The Trojans return to the field tonight when they travel to Michigan City for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.
