CHS Baseball beats Merrillville

Ryan Slivka didn’t need much help.

The junior hurler allowed just one hit in picking up a complete game 6-0 Duneland Athletic Conference victory for the Chesterton baseball team over Merrillville on Wednesday.

The Trojans got on the board in the second inning when Zach McKenna singled to start the inning and Jake Roof followed with a two-run home run to left.

CHS finished the scoring in the third with a four-run rally. Connor Krantz reached on a one-out error and moved to second when Jeremy Krantz was hit by a pitch. Tyler Nelson tripled to score both.

McKenna’s sacrifice fly scored Nelson and Roof followed with his second home run of the night to set the final score.

Roof and Kolton Cardenas each had a pair of hits, while Nelson, McKenna, Garrett Fairbanks and Slivka all added to the hit parade.

Slivka struck out nine in picking up the win.

The Trojans return to the field on Friday when they travel to Hobart for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.
