Chesterton Volleyball sweeps Merrillville in 3

The Chesterton volleyball team improved to 12-4 on the season with a 25-20, 25-19, 25-17 Duneland Athletic Conference victory over Merrillville on Tuesday.

Offensively, Katie Nelson led the Trojans with nine kills, while Maggie Vrahoretis had eight kills. Meghan Gaffigan tallied seven kills and Emma Ekblaw had five kills.

Vivi Smilgius dished out a team-best 18 assists with Vrahoretis adding 12 helpers.

Defensively, Nelson had 12 digs, while McKenna Guernsey tallied seven digs. Gaffigan had six digs with AJ Devereaux, Ekblaw and Greta Tilden recording five digs each.

On the service line, Vrahoretis and Nelson led the way with four aces each. Smilgius and Tilden each had two aces.

At the net, Reese Czarniecki and Gaffigan each tallied three blocks.

The Trojans return to the court on Thursday when they host LaPorte. The JV match is set for 5 p.m.
