The Chesterton girls tennis team put the final touches on a 5-2 Duneland
Athletic Conference season with a solid 4-1 victory at Merrillville on
Thursday night.
“Tonight was our last DAC match and we ended 5-2,” Chesterton coach Gretchen
Shinn said. “We really played well in singles and won all three in straight
sets.”
In singles play, Elizabeth Shinn was victorious at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-0 win
over Stephanie Donahue. At No. 2, Erin DeVaney was equally good in a 6-1, 6-1
win over Kristen Hoyles. To round out the singles sweep, sophomore Jannon
Jeffries beat Stephanie Zellers 6-3, 7-5.
In doubles, the Trojans (9-4, 5-2) final point came at No. 2 where Amanda
Gore and Christine Lambert combined for a 7-5, 6-4 win over Ashley Cherry and
Allison Kish.
Chesterton returns to the court on Monday when they travel to Wheeler to face
the Bearcats beginning at 4:15 p.m.

The Chesterton junior varsity tennis team fell for only the second time this
season as Merrillville came away with a 7-4 victory.
The Trojans picked up three doubles victories with wins by Olivia Gordon-Shelbie
Sullivan at No. 2 and No. 7, while Cassi Moore and Lexi Misch won at No. 8.
In singles, Tori Comegys beat Sylvia Suggs at No. 3.
