The Chesterton girls tennis team turned in its best performance of the season on the scoreboard and picked up a 5-0 sweep of Crown Point on Senior Night Thursday.

“Tonight was our first 5-0 sweep and on Senior Night that’s really nice,” Chesterton coach Gretchen Shinn said. “Everyone played well.”

The Trojans (6-3, 2-2 DAC) had little trouble in doubles as Cristi Williams and Bharathi Muthusamy beat Maria Ficker and Chelsea Viers 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1. Amanda Gore and Christine Lambert followed with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Hannah Tokoly and Kelly Gross at No. 2.

In singles, Elizabeth Shinn had an easy time at No. 1 with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Sara Tokoly. Erin DeVaney swept Amanda Halsted at No. 2 6-3, 6-4.

The match of the day came at No. 3 singles where sophomore Jannon Jeffries dropped the first set 6-2 and battled back to win the final two sets 6-4, 6-3 over Alexandra Vandenberg.

“The highlight came from No. 3 singles and Jannon Jeffries,” Shinn said. “Jeffries had a really nice come-from-behind three-set win.”

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 6, Crown Point 3

The Chesterton junior varsity improved to 8-1 on the year and a perfect 4-0 in DAC play with a 6-3 victory over Crown Point.

The Trojans swept singles play with Cassi Moore (No. 1), Lexi Misch (No. 2) and Tori Comegys (No. 3) all winning.

In doubles, the duos of Lauren Ingram-Stacey Kammerer, Olivia Gordon-Shelbie Sullivan and Sara Torabi-Heather Ribar were all winners.
