The Chesterton girls tennis team saw its season come to an end on Saturday morning in a 5-0 loss to Valparaiso in the Championship match of the Portage Sectional.

“Valpo played very well today,” Chesterton coach Tom Bour said. “They stopped any type of run our girls threw at them, so we just have to tip our caps to them and learn from this. For us, next season begins now and the hard work in the off-season will make us a stronger team come next April."

Milena Veltri was the only Trojan to win a set as she took the opening set (6-4) at No. 2 singles from Valpo’s A.K. Flude. Flude won the final two sets 6-2, 6-0. Veltri finished the season 11-6 overall.

Leah Rochford battled before falling 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 3 singles and finished her year 12-3 overall.

Lilly Putchaven fell 6-0, 6-0 to Rose Pastoret at No. 1 singles as a substitution for Peyton Martinson. Martinson missed the post-season due to illness and finished 9-6 overall on the season.

In doubles, Olivia Vesling and Hailee Ellenwood dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Aleah Ferngren and Grace Healy to finish their season 12-6 overall at No. 1. Christian Charlson and Rachel Byrnside lost 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles to Corrine Timmons and Kelsey Minko.

Chesterton finished the season 7-5 overall.
