Playing, watching, scoring; the match was simply satisfying.
After a difficult night in a victory against Crown Point on Tuesday, the
Chesterton girls tennis team returned to the courts to easily defeat Andrean
5-0.
“Everyone played well today,” Chesterton coach Gretchen Shinn said. “It was
definitely a morale boost and great feel for the team. Last night we lost
both doubles, so we needed a decisive win tonight.
“I was happy with the way we played and it was good for the girls.”
It was a reassuring and quick match for the Trojans, each girl completing
the victory in just two sets.
At No. 2 singles, Margaret Shinn dominated Andrean opponent, Gigi Gonzalez,
with two 6-0 sets. At No. 2 doubles, Brittny Stephan and Amanda Susnak, also
shut out their rivals with two 6-0 wins.
“This match puts us 8-2 and 4-0 in the DAC now,” Shinn said.
Other top performances include No. 1 singles player Bobbi Modesto winning
the first set 6-1 and coming back for another win 6-2 against Andrean top’s
girl, Candace Roberson.
Chesterton’s No 1. doubles duo of Sunny Lee and Rachel McCrum took complete
control in the first set with a 6-0 win. Struggling in the second set, the
team let slip three games, finishing the match 6-3.
“(Thursday) we have Lake Central and next week we have our game against
Michigan City. They are a deep and good team, so it will be a big meet for
us,” Shinn concluded. “Tonight was a great confidence booster to prepare for
that match.”
