Chesterton Softball wins at Valparaiso

Back To Front Page

The Chesterton softball team scored early and late even though it didn’t matter.

The Trojans ‘officially’ picked up a 5-1 Duneland Athletic Conference victory at Valparaiso on Wednesday as they improved to 13-4 overall and 7-4 in DAC play.

Chesterton put three quick runs on the board in the top of the first and added another solo run in the third and fifth innings to lead 5-0.

Valpo answered back with one run in the fifth and the Trojans opened up the flood gates with a six-run sixth inning.

The flood gates also brought the rain and the game was called due to lightening with Valpo batting in the sixth. The game reverts back to the score of the last fully played inning.

Lexi Benko led the Chesterton offense with four hits (double, home run), while Shelby Grimm, Kristi Stevenson and Micaela Iacovetti each tallied two hits.

Lauren Anderson worked all five innings in the circle and struck out four to pick up the win.

The Trojans return to the field on Friday when they host South Bend Adams in a doubleheader beginning at 4:30 p.m.
