Chesterton Softball shuts out Michigan City 10-0

The Chesterton softball team pounded out 13 hits and cruised to a 10-0 Duneland Athletic Conference victory at Michigan City on Tuesday.

A scoreless game through three innings saw the Trojans explode for six runs in the fourth.

Lauren Kobialka started the rally with a one out single to centerfield. Kaitlyn Carr reached on an error and both runners scored on Marney Sissonís double to left field.

A walk to Gillian Price and stolen base put runners on second and third before Maddie Snemis singled to right field to score Sisson and Price. Cassidy Grimm singled and both runners advanced on a passed ball.

Lexi Benkoís two-run single to left scored Snemis and Grimm for a 6-0 lead.

Micaela Iacovettiís RBI single to center in the sixth inning scored Grimm for a 7-0 advantage.

The finishing touches came in the seventh as Sisson and Price both singled with one out. Both runners advanced on a passed ball before Snemis singled to score both runners.

Grimmís double to right field scored Snemis to set the final score.

Offensively, Snemis was 4-for-5 with Grimm and Sisson each adding two hits. Benko picked up the win in the circle with five innings of work, allowing one hit and striking out eight.

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 13, Michigan City 0

The Chesterton junior varsity had little trouble in picking up a 13-0 victory over Michigan City on Tuesday.

Offensively, Avary Gonzales went 3-for-3 with a walk and Madison Cowger was 2-for-2.

Cowger also got the victory in the pitching circle with five innings of work (4 strikeouts).
