Chesterton Softball rebounds with shutout

Back To Front Page

One night after dropping its DAC opener, the Chesterton softball team came out mad.

The Trojans pounded out 16 hits and won their first road game of the season 12-0 at Griffith on Thursday.

“It felt good to see the girls continue to hit the ball hard and get more production from it tonight,” Chesterton coach LouAnn Hopson.

The Trojans got things going in the second inning when they sent 10 hitters to the plate. Lauren Anderson got the rally started with a one-out double and scored on Marney Sisson’s sacrifice fly.

Kari LaFreniere singled and scored on Shelby Grimm’s home run. Maddie Snemis singled and scored on Kristi Stevenson’s single.

Stevenson scored on Lexi Benko’s home run as Chesterton scored six runs with two outs.

The onslaught continued in the third inning as Anderson singled and scored on a two-out double by Grimm. Grimm scored on Snemis’ RBI double.

Stevenson’s two-run home run plated Snemis as the Trojans again scored four runs with two outs.

In the fourth, Micaela Iacovetti singled and Anderson drew a two-out walk. Iacovetti scored on Sisson’s single and Anderson scored on a bases loaded walk to Grimm.

Both runs, again, scored with two outs.

Benko picked up the win in the pitching circle with three innings of work, recording seven strike outs. Kelly Carr pitched the final two innings and struck out three.

“Lexi and Kelly both pitched well,” Hopson said.

The Trojans return to the field today when they host Hanover Central beginning at 5 p.m.
