Chesterton Softball blasts Michigan City

Back To Front Page

The Chesterton softball team brought out its bats Tuesday night to the tune of 12 hits and 13 runs in a 13-2 Duneland Athletic Conference victory over Michigan City.

“The home runs are great and exciting, but it sure is great to see us scoring on line drives and sac flies of late,” Chesterton coach LouAnn Hopson said. “Everyone seems relaxed and confidant at the plate.”

The Trojans (20-3, 11-2) scored in every inning as Mallory McKee got things started in the first with a double. Shelby Carter followed with a single and both scored on Megan Matheny’s double.

Sydney Cooley reached on an error just before both runners scored on Amanda Dujmovich’s single.

In the second, Carter reached on a fielder’s choice and Matheny racked up her second double of the night. Both scored on Cooley’s RBI single.

McKee and Carter again started the third by reaching base and scored on Cooley’s double.

The bottom of the order got involved in the fourth as Sarah Richards walked and stole second. Bailey Slivka singled and also stole second. Richards scored on McKee’s single and Slivka scored on Carter’s ground out.

McKee scored on Matheny’s single to set the final score.

Offensively, McKee, Matheny and Dujmovich each had three hits. Cooley drove in four runs and Matheny had three RBI’s.

Megan Tymorek worked all five innings for the win, scattering five hits and striking out four.
