Chesterton Softball beats Mishawaka 14-4

The Chesterton softball team pounded out 18 hits, including nine extra base hits, and rolled to a 14-4 win at Mishawaka on Thursday.

Mishawaka took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the Trojans responded immediately with four second inning runs.

Lauren Anderson started the rally with a walk and was replaced by courtesy runner Micaela Iacovetti. Cassidy Grimm singled and Faith Matta was hit by a pitch ahead of Hayley Edmondsí two-out grand slam.

In the third, Kristi Stevenson singled and scored on Kari LaFreniereís RBI double.

Two more long balls in the fourth resulted in five more Trojan runs as Matta started things with a single. Shelby Grimmís two-run home run plated Matta.

Maddie Snemis doubled and Stevenson was hit by a pitch before Anderson hit a three-run home run to push the lead to 10-2.

In the fifth, Edmonds blasted her second home run of the night. Shelby Grimm doubled and scored on Snemisí double.

The final tallies of the night came in the sixth beginning with a leadoff home run from Anderson. Cassidy Grimm singled and Shelby Grimm plated her with a double.

Anderson picked up the win in the circle with six innings of work and six strikeouts.

The Trojans return to the field on Tuesday when they host Portage beginning at 4:30 p.m.
