Chesterton Softball beats Lowell 7-4

Back To Front Page

The Chesterton softball team improved to 21-4 overall with a 7-4 non-conference victory over Lowell on Thursday night.

Neither team scored until the fourth inning when the Trojans got on the board. Kristy Stevenson singled and scored on an outfield error off the bat of Lexi Benko.

Chesterton took complete control of the game in the fifth inning thanks to the long ball. Kari LaFreniere doubled and scored on a home run by Shelby Grimm.

Lauren Anderson singled and Micaela Iacovetti reached on an error. Benko blasted a three-run home run to make it 6-0.

Lowell provided a rally of its own in the sixth. A one-out walk and four singles plated three runs and chased Anderson, the Trojan starter.

Another run scored on an infield single, but Benko slammed the door to stymie the rally.

LaFreniere set the final score in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run.

Anderson picked up the win in the circle and struck out six, while Benko earned the save and struck out four.

Chesterton returns to the field tonight for the regular season finale at home against Munster beginning at 4:30 p.m.
