Chesterton Softball beats Highland 7-1

Back To Front Page

The Chesterton softball team pounded out 14 hits and had little trouble in a 7-1 non-conference victory over Highland on Friday night.

The Trojans opened the scoring in the third inning as Maddie Snemis singled to start the inning. After Lexi Benko walked, Micaela Iacovetti singled to load the bases. Lauren Kobialka’s RBI single scored Snemis with the game’s first run.

Courtesy runner Hope Matta and Iacovetti both scored on a wild pitch before Kaitlyn Carr plated Kobialka with a single to make it 4-0 Trojans.

The final three-run rally came in the fourth Snemis singled and Cassidy Grimm was hit by a pitch. Benko delivered the big blow with a three-run home run to left for a 7-0 lead.

That was more than enough for Benko in the pitching circle as the senior allowed just one run on two hits, while striking out nine.

Chesterton returns to the field tonight when they host Kankakee Valley beginning at 4:30 p.m.
